Red-Throated Loon (Gavia stellata)
The red-throated loon is the only species of loon that is capable of taking off from land.
The red-throated loon breeds on the Arctic tundra and along the Canadian Pacific coast, and in winter, is found primarily along the east and west coasts of North America, and in the Great Lakes, where water remains open.
