Vulnerable species!

These salamanders are rare in Canada and because its habitat make it particularly sensitive to human impact, the Pacific giant salamander is listed as a vulnerable species by COSEWIC (The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada). The salamanders in the genus Dicamptodon have recently been shown to consist of four genetically distinct species. Dicamptodon tenebrosus, formerly known as Dicamptodon ensatus is found in Canada.
