Geographic focus of research: Atlantic Canada
Brief synopsis of current research:
I am a member of a interdisciplinary team that is
implementing a system to monitor ocean production in the Canadian Atlantic
offshore area using remote
sensing data together with data from ship-based sampling. The goal is to
produce bi-weekly images
of ocean production on a routine basis. The resulting time series will be
used to investigate questions relating to
climate change and fisheries. The limitations of the ship-based data
collection, which affect the coverage
in time and space of samples, as well as the overall computational
complexity of the task are the greatest
challenges we face.
