Brief synopsis of current research:
Dr. Bower conducts research on diseases of shellfish. Most of her research is directed towards investigating the biology of shellfish pathogens in order to identify mechanisms of prevention or control. Dr. Bower also works on designing sensitive and specific diagnostic tests for shellfish pathogens. Efforts are also directed towards the development of Canadian Shellfish Health Protection Regulations. In this endeavour, Dr. Bower has co-authored an Internet web site that presents a synopsis of all known infectious diseases and parasites of commercially exploited shellfish from around the world.
