Marine Gene Probe Laboratory (MGPL)

Marine Gene Probe Laboratory

Established in 1988 at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the MGPL carries out molecular and genetic research to aid development in harvest and aquaculture fisheries. The facility and its resources are used to train students and scientists on the use of molecular tools. While it primarily focuses on fisheries and wildlife conservation, it is starting to look at forestry management and silvaculture following the establishment in 1998 of the Stora Chair in Forestry Genetics and Biotechnology.
