Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research

Established in 1981, at the University of Windsor in Ontario, GLIER oversees an organics analytical laboratory, an aquarium, and a metals analytical laboratory. Research performed at the institute includes studies of contaminant effects on human cells, effects of contaminants on the food web, modeling the behaviour of metals entering and leaving the Lake Huron and Lake Erie corridor, and monitoring the effects of pesticides on amphibians (in conjunction with Point Pelee National Park).
